This song was inspired by my many visits to New Orleans and my love for Billie Holiday. I saw her in the movie "Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans". I went to the New Orleans jazz festival when this recording was first released. During the festival I gave it to the dj at the New Orleans jazz radio station. They were covering the festival. Later I went to Willies', a friend who first encouraged me to sing on stage. I had gone to bed and he had the radio on. He came out of the kitchen and said "Barbara you are on the radio". He hadn't heard the cd yet. So yes, the first time I heard my self on the radio singing was in New Orleans at Jazz fest. I felt blessed.

Lyrics

Do you know what it means
To miss New Orleans
And miss it each night and day
I know I'm not wrong
The feeling's getting stronger
The longer I stay away
Miss the moist covered vines
The tall sugar pines
Where mocking birds used to sing
And I'd like to see the lazy Mississippi
A hurrying into spring
The Mardi Gras memories
Of creole tunes that filled the air
I dream of oleanders in June
And soon I'm wishing that I was there
Do you know what it means
To miss New Orleans
When that's where you left your heart
And there's something more
I miss the one I care for
More than I miss New Orleans
