From the recording Where Butterflies Play
I had been to Paris and loved Count Basie. Ellyn and I had done this tune at a Mother's Day date. It had been a favorite I did with Joe. Unfortunately, the original session with him was only partially salvageable as the piano at the studio went out of tune. When I heard the play back it was different to me....Then I realized yes... this was Ellyn and it was my second time singing it with her. Meanwhile I had been singing it for 6 months with Joe....Young singer as I was.
Lyrics
I never knew the charm of spring
I never met it face to face
I never knew my heart could sing
I never missed a warm embrace
Till April in Paris, chestnuts in blossom
Holiday tables under the trees
April in Paris, this is a feeling
That no one can ever reprise
I never knew the charm of spring
I never met it face to face
I never knew my heart could sing
I never missed a warm embrace
Till April in Paris
Whom can I run to
What have you done to my heart
